Over the years SAK has realized
that in rural parts of the country, video films constitute perhaps
the best form of information transfer. Women, especially in
those areas where the
literacy levels are low, have been known to prefer the video form of
information to discussions and lectures. Another advantage of using
video is that it reduces the tedium of repeated presentation by the
development worker who can then concentrate on discussions following
the presentation. SAK has prepared three films that deal with
matters related to women's development. The contents are described
in brief below.
Women's Rights
This video deals with women's
legal and human rights. The video is an attempt to educate the women
of their rights and through this education and improvement in their
awareness empower them to fight for their rights against any and all
forms of injustice. The rights covered are drawn from the Indian
Constitution, International Conventions, governmental policies etc.
Attempts have been made to explain these rights of women in simple
terms. Amongst the
major items covered are health, education, legal rights and
governmental polices. Eminent women's activists have explained these
various aspects.
Women's Court
This film essentially aims at
training women in the functioning of the judicial system mainly
courts in the country. During the Mahila Adhikar Sammelan held at
Jalgaon, one of the sessions was devoted to a role play of a court
room scene depicting a trial where a case of atrocity (rape) is
being heard. The role
play included presentation of the case by the prosecution,
presentation of ‘proof’, tactics employed by the defendant’s lawyer to
weaken the case and confuse the plaintiff and cross examination
procedures.
Post Earthquake development
SAK has prepared this film that aims to
demonstrate the need to undertake gender sensitive developmental
work after natural calamities and the methodology to do the
same.
Panchayat Raj
This film deals with the
provisions of the Panchayat Raj and the methods in which women can
actively participate in democratic decision making processes.
